Book of God: The Gospel of John (Leader)
Book of God: The Gospel of John
A 15-Session Reflective Bible Study
LEADER'S GUIDE
Written by the Rev. Virgil Thompson
In this fifteen-session Bible Study, Virgil Thompson takes up the fourth gospel, the Gospel according to Saint John. As John declares of Jesus at the outset
of the story, “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known” (1:18). In John’s view, Jesus is the One who reveals the freely giving God of creation, the One who now comes down to assert his Lordship over a creation that has lost its faith in God and the promise of his freely giving ways. Jesus comes down for the sole purpose of giving life and giving it abundantly! As John declares toward the end of the gospel, the reason he wrote was “so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name” (20:31). This study is part of Sola Publishing's "Digging Deeper" Series, and is written at an intermediate level. It has a reflective devotional style that includes more commentary from the author and fewer questions than other Sola Publishing Bible studies. It’s designed to be led by a lay leader or pastor, requiring no previous homework to participate.
