Unit 2 - Lesson 9 - New Testament
Bonus: Mary Visits Elizabeth
Theme: Visitation
Biblical Basis: Luke 1:39-56
As proof of God’s promise to Mary that she would bear a child, the angel Gabriel had told Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was also with child. This, too, was an amazing conception, since Elizabeth was well past child-bearing age. When the women came together, they rejoiced at the favor God had shown them.
Additional Text: Isaiah 9:6-7
Lesson Prayer:
Almighty God, you have shown your faithfulness to your people throughout the ages. We thank you for bringing to fulfillment the promise of a Savior in the coming Jesus Christ, the son of Mary. Like her, we ask you keep us grounded in faith through trust in your Word. May our souls magnify your glory and may our spirits rejoice in the birth of the Messiah. We ask this in the name of the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Memory Verse:
Elizabeth said to Mary ... “Behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.” (Luke 1:44)
Creative Idea for the Week:
Many congregations spend Sunday School time in the weeks leading up to Christmas in the rehearsal and performance of an annual Christmas Program. But every congregation is different. This bonus lesson on the Christmas Story is meant to be used wherever it fits best into the local Church's calendar.
