Elijah and the Poor Widow

Biblical Basis • 1 Kings 17:1-16
When Elijah spoke against King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, he had to flee to the wilderness, were God sustained him during a severe famine. God sent him to the house of a widow in Zerephath, whose generosity to the prophet sustained her and her son as well.

Gracious and merciful God, giver of all good things, you are the source of our life, hope, and faith. We thank you for everything you provide us with: food, water, clothing, shelter, family. We thank you most of all for the gift of your son Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Creative Idea for the Week
Stick Puppets:
Simple puppets can be made by cutting out pictures of characters (like those from the coloring pages) and attaching them to craft sticks. Another way to create stick puppets is by actually drawing faces and clothing on large wooden tongue depressors. Click HERE for a link to a pdf sheet with some stick puppet "costumes." Kids can choose which costumes are most appropriate to the characters in today's story.
