Crossing the Jordan
Theme: Remembrance
Biblical Basis • Joshua 3:1-17
After the death of Moses, God chose Joshua to be the new leader of his people and to lead them into the Promised Land. The Jordan River served as a boundary splitting the land of Canaan into east and west halves. Crossing this river marked the end of the Israelites’ wilderness wanderings.

Lesson Prayer
Almighty and everlasting God, you have promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Through the waters of baptism, you have redeemed us, call us by name, and claimed us as your own. In times of trial and uncertainty, help us not to fear. Thank you for your constant, unchanging love. We pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Creative Idea for the Week
String Puppets:
The most complicated string puppets are fully functional “marionettes” with several strings for manipulating the arms, legs, and mouth of the puppet. But children can make much more simple string puppets by attaching human figures to strings at the end of a rod (like a fishing pole). They can make the figures "walk" along. This type of puppet works well when the story involves traveling characters, like today's story of crossing the Jordan.
