Unit 2 Lesson 9 New Testament
Bonus: News of the Angel
Theme: Annunciation
Biblical Basis Luke 1:26-38
Today’s lesson from the Gospel of Luke records an event known as the “Annunciation” (pronounced: a-NUN-see-AY-shun). Additional Text: Galatians 4:3-7
Lesson Prayer
Lord God, hope of the world, you have given us promises that only you can fulfill. We thank you for the promise of the Savior, who has entered into the world. Keep us firm in faith, so that in trusting your Son, Jesus Christ, we may be found prepared and faithful for the day he comes again. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Memory Verse
The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus." (Luke 1:30-31)
Creative Idea for the Week
The Season of Advent: Many congregations use the weeks just prior to Christmas as an opportunity to practice and/or perform their annual Sunday School Christmas program. In these weeks, others schedule Christmas parties or caroling events. The majority of churches do not have normal class sessions in the weeks just prior to Christmas. However, since local traditions vary so widely, we have offered this bonus lesson for those congregations that need an extra class session in this season.
