Unit 2 • Lesson 8 • Old Testament

From the Stump of Jesse

Theme: Hope

Biblical Basis • Isaiah 11:1-10

Everyone thought the dynasty of King David had come to ruin. The family of David's father Jesse was like a dead stump. But God sent the prophet Isaiah to give the promise a "shoot" that would come forth from that stump, a new king from the line of David who would rule forever as the Messiah of God!

Additional Text: Hebrews 1:1-4

Lesson Prayer

God of all hope, you are the one who brings new life out of death. Your wisdom and mercy are never ending. We thank you for giving us your promises, which you fulfill among us daily. Give us such a knowledge of your goodness that we would bring the message of your salvation to all who have ears to listen. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
