What happens when present-day disciples join Jesus' disciples-of-old as they process some of his teachings? It is often easy to forget that Jesus' original Twelve were not theologically trained. Could it be that these ordinary men shared our awe, our struggle to understand, our surprise, our sense of inadequacy, our amazement at being called, our hesitancy to serve God and others over self, and even our tendancy to avoid humble obedience?

This resource is a collection of a few of Jesus' teachings followed by an imaginary conversation among the early disciples as they processed what they heard.  It becomes clear through their conversations that living as disciples of Jesus requires walking with fellow disciples, supporting, encouraging, and challenging each other to live Jesus' way in every area of daily life. "If any of you want to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me," (Luke 9:23). We invite you to join us as present-day disciples, living in, through, and between the stories.

This group discussion booklet was originally written to serve as a follow-up for congregations who have taken part in a "Life-to-Life" Discipleship program, but it could also be used apart from such a series.  The conversational approach used here might be particularly appropriate for new believers, young people, and the unchurched.
