Little Samuel

Biblical Basis • 1 Samuel 3:1-20
When Samuel was a boy, he served the Lord at Shiloh by helping Eli the priest. One night, when Samuel was sleeping on a mat in the tabernacle, the Lord called his name. It was at this young age that God gave the prophet Samuel his first message to speak.

Lesson Prayer
Lord of all, it is by your call that we come to you and are given new life in you. Help us to hear your call and to respond with eagerness and trust. We thank you for those whom you’ve placed in our lives who help us to hear you and to follow in faith. We pray this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Creative Idea for the Week
Use today's story to talk about ways that children help serve in ministry as part of your congregation. In particular, you might draw the connection between the tasks that Samuel performed and the role of an acolyte in worship. For example, Samuel had his own priestly robe that his more made for him by his mother, and one of the things he was resposnble for was making sure the candles in the tabernacle were lit. In your congregations, do acolytes wear special robes? Do they light candles? What others things do acolytes do?
