Jonah Flees From God

Theme: Message

Biblical Basis • Jonah 1:1 - 2:3, 7-10

God chose Jonah to go to the wicked city of Nineveh and tell the people there to turn from their sin. But Jonah was afraid. He didn’t want to talk for God, so he decided to go the opposite direction. He found a ship to take him as far away as he could get. But things didn't go as he had planned.

Lesson Prayer

Ancient Lord, from of old you have called your servants to bring messages of grace to those who have wandered into sin and death. Give us the boldness to proclaim the good news of your love and mercy to all we meet, that all would know you and bow before your holy throne. We give you thanks for pulling us back to you, when we, your servants, fail to listen to your commands. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, we pray. Amen.

2021 News Story!  Man Swallowed by Whale:  In the summer of 2021, a man who works as a lobster diver near Cape Cod, Massachusetts, was reported to have been sucked whole inside the mouth of a whale, before being spit out by the animal. The man lived to tell the tale!  The whale was not actually trying to eat the man; this was simply the case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Read the story here:
